Deaths:
DUNN Margaret Sutphin Dunn, 83, Jonesboro (Indiana) Friends Church,
October 8, 2000. Margaret Dunn was born to the late John P. and Molly
(Lewis) Frazier and had lived in the Marion and Jonesboro areas most of
her life. She was married to Earl O. Sutphin who died November 24, 1960.
She married Russell Dunn who died February 18, 1985. A member of Jonesboro
Friends Church, she was also a member of United Society of Friends Women
and Jonesboro Friends Loyal Crusaders. She was a homemaker and caregiver.
Survivors include two daughters, Earlene (Russell) Partenheimer and Margaret
Jeanette Reed; a stepson, James R. (Joyce); a stepdaughter, Jacqueline
(Donald) Brown; a brother, Joseph (Imogene) Frazier; three grandchildren,
Carol and Elaine Partenheimer and Laura Lynne Crow; two great-grandchildren;
18 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Janet David; seven brothers,
Forrest "Doc", Floyd "Jim", Chester, Perry, William,
John A. and Silas Frazier; two sisters, Maxine Frazier and Mable Seeley;
one step-grandson; and one step-great-granddaughter. Memorials may be
made to Jonesboro Friends Church, 513 S. Water Street, Jonesboro, IN 46938.
HINSHAW Bonnie Hutchens Hinshaw, 97, Harmony Grove Friends, Booneville,
North Carolina, October 29, 2000. Bonnie Hinshaw was born September 8,
1903, to Nathan Gurney and Dollie Elizabeth Patterson Hutchens in Yadkin
County. She married Sandford B. Hinshaw on December 25, 1924. At the time
of her death, Bonnie was the oldest living member of her meeting, having
served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and for fourteen years
as Recording Clerk. An elder of the meeting, she was also recognized as
an honorary elder for life. A founding member of the Rosa Edgerton Missionary
Circle, Bonnie was also a member of The United Society of Friends Women
of North Carolina Yearly Meeting, the Della Woodhouse Mission Group, and
was treasurer of the Jolly Friends Senior Citizens. Bonnie worked for
the Winston-Salem Production Credit Association for 26 years. She periodically
worked as secretary for the Register of Deeds, the Clerk of Court and
the Tax Supervisor of Yadkinville, and also served as Town Clerk. She
was collector for the Central Telephone Company in Yadkinville for 17
years as well as an insurance agent for the Allied Life Insurance Company.
Bonnie was co-owner of the "Tots and Teens Shop" in Yadkinville
for more than 18 years, retiring in 1974. She moved to Boonville in 1986
to be near her two daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband,
her brothers William and Paul, her sisters Ruth H. Hardy, Berniece Steelman,
and her half-sister Hattie Willard. Survivors include her sister, Dollie
Mae Davis; her daughters, Frieda Speer and June (Richard) Smithdeal; grandchildren
Bonnie Lynn Smithdeal, Brenda (Tim) Proctor, Beth (Aubrey) Bryant, Sandra
(Barry ) Bryant, and Allen Paul (Janet) Speer III; two step-great-grandsons;
seven great-grandchildren.
KING Mojeska ("Dutch") King, 89, Knightstown Friends,
Indiana, November 3, 2000. Mojeska King was born February 20, 1911, to
Fisher and Leila Davis Williams of Tennessee. A 1929 graduate of Knightstown
High School, she was employed by several local stores over the years.
An active member of Knightstown Friends, she was also a member of the
Priscilla Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William
and brother Davis Williams. Survivors include her brother Edward "Dean"
Williams and step-brothers Gene and James C. Williams.
LEAKE Roy Emmett, Bloomington Friends, October 16, 2000. Roy Leake
graduated with honors from Guilford College in 1943. He served as a Quaker
relief worker in French-occupied Germany after World War II, and later
earned a Ph.D. in French from Bryn Mawr College. In 1961 joined the French
Department at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he remained until
his retirement. He and his wife Alice supervised a university-sponsored
study program for Indiana high school students of French. An active member
of Bloomington Friends Meeting, he was editor of the newsletter the last
several years of his life. Survivors include his wife Alice; one daughter
Patricia; one son David; and three grandchildren Alyssa, Timothy, and
Emily.
MURROW Hazel Richardson Murrow, 100, of Centre Friends Meeting,
North Carolina, October 31, 2000. Hazel Murrow was a retired teacher of
the Guilford County schools. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Edgar Murrow. Survivors include daughters Mary Hamilton and Gertrude (David)
Sillmon; a son, Joshua Edgar, Jr. (Doris); eight grandchildren Leslie,
Christopher, Tish, Beth, Stanley, Sandy, Rebecca, and David Jr.; plus
eleven great-grandchildren.
PETRY Marvin E. Petry, 82, Arba Friends, September 10, 2000. Marvin
Petry was born October 15, 1917, to James and Annina Stump Petry of Bakers
Corner, Ohio. He had lived in Fountain City since 1989. He was retired
from the Union City Body Company and had also managed the Crete Elevator
near Lynn, Indiana, and the New Madison Elevator in New Madison, Ohio.
He was a member of the Spencerville, Ohio VFW and a former Scout Master.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Viretta Petry and two sisters,
Jennie Hathaway and Theresa Gregg. Survivors include a sister Elva St.
Myers; one son Joseph; two daughters Betty Williamson and Joyce McCollum;
eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
SIMS Mackenzie Jo Sims, 7, Ridge Farm Friends, Illinois, June
28, 2000. Mackenzie was born March 23, 1992, to parents Dave and Anita
Sims. A quiet little girl with a contagious smile, she loved reading,
bowling, Beanie Babies, and kittens. She knew few strangers and understood
the true meaning of friendship. Survivors include her brother, Trey, her
parents, her grandma and grandpa, and her family of faith, Ridge Farm
Friends.
