Dear Reader
For years firms have used the word Quaker to indicate honesty and
integrity in business. As we enter into the 21st century, is the
name Quaker still equated with integrity in the same way? What are
your thoughts?
This month three writers share their experience of Friendly integrity.
Oliver Kisaka addresses the issue of integrity related to the African
Quaker church. Gary Fisher looks at the challenges to integrity
in the workplace and Chester Cheeseman addresses teen peer pressure
and integrity.
An excerpt from a new British book formulates business Advices
and Queries for both employers and employees. Continuing on the
practical side are several "Ideas That Work" including
a free software program written by Dan Cooperstock of Toronto Friends
that tracks donors, issues receipts and even mail-merges.
Inspirational articles by John Myers (Hands), Ray Armstrong (Honor
vs. Respect), and Tim Basford (God's Heart) help us grow closer
to God through Christ. And check out our new Quaker cartoonist from
Evanston Friends, Joel Erkenswick, with his offering of "Waiting
at the Light."
Let us maintain integrity in word and deed. Holding to the simplicity
of truth, let us keep free of oaths. Remember how widespread and
diverse are the temptations to grow rich at the expense of others,
and how apparently harmless indulgence often leads by degrees to
wrong-doing. Let us avoid and discourage every kind of betting and
gambling and commercial speculations of a gambling character.
