Dear Reader
As school begins this September, Hebrews 10:23-25 points us to
a spiritual curriculum for all ages.
Hope "Let us hold firmly to the hope we have confessed,
because we can trust God to do what he promised." (verse 23)
"People can live for about 40 days without food, about 3 days
without water, about 8 minutes without air," writes Hal Lindsey,
"but only about 1 second without hope."
Hope comes through our personal relationship with Christ and is
linked with faith and love. Hope is always ours no matter what our
situation because only our God, who gives us hope, is faithful to
his promises.
Loving Action "Let us consider how we may spur one
another on toward love and good deeds." (verse 24)
God calls each of us to find our place of ministry and to love
others. Divine love spurs us into loving action.
Fellowship "Let us not give up meeting together
as some are in the habit of doing." (verse 25)
It's true that going to church doesn't make you a Christian any
more than being in a garage makes you a car. When Christians spend
time together, they have an eternally significant impact on one
another.
Building Encouragement "Let us encourage one another."
(verse 25)
Have you noticed how easy it is to focus on others' faults and
ignore their strengths? How much easier it is to give warm praise
and encouragement to others than the frost of criticism!
Learning is a life-long process and the following Query focuses
on several areas of learning, within our Meetings, within Friends
schools and within the public school system. This issue has the
same focus.
Do you provide religious education, including study of the
Bible and of Friends' history and practices, in your meeting? Do
you ensure that schools under the care of Friends exemplify Friends
principles? Do you support and strive to improve the public schools?
(Baltimore, Query 11)
Blessings in Christ,
