ARRINGTON Raleigh Ben "Speedy" Arrington Jr., 77, Liberty Friends, North Carolina, August 1, 2001. Raleigh Arrington was married to Carleen Kivett Arrington, who preceded him in death. Survivors include two sisters, Helen Edwards and Faye Fox; and two brothers, Raymond Arrington, Curtis Arrington.

AYCOCK Margaret Fleetwood Aycock, 88, Nahunta Friends, Pikeville, North Carolina, June 15, 2001. Margaret Aycock was born to Bennie R. and Betty Gurganus Wiggins and was an adopted child of Elmer E. and Elizabeth Fleetwood. She married Abner Worth Aycock, Sr. Active in her meeting, she was also a member of the Friendship Circle, the Nahunta Home Extension Club, and had been active in the Nahunta School and in community affairs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner. Survivors include a daughter, Melba Kirby; a son, A.W. Aycock, Jr.; a foster son, Billy Henderson; six sisters, Rose Chamlee, Evelyn Lamm, Swanell McLawhorn, Fanettie Whichard, Reba Mitchell and Marylin Wiggins; four grandsons, Stanley Worth Kirby, Dale Aycock Kirby, Graylon Worth Aycock and Richard Kevin Aycock; two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

BEESON John Harold Beeson, 80, Cedar Square Friends, Archdale, North Carolina, July 14, 2001. John Beeson was born May 22, 1921 to William ÊF. and Pauline Hinshaw Beeson. He married Lelia McDowell. He was active in his meeting, serving as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and as a trustee and clerk of the monthly meeting. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Beeson. Survivors include his wife Lelia; a daughter, Ann Sasser; two sons, John Blake Beeson and Roger William Beeson; two sisters, Virginia Griffith and Carolyn Overton; a brother, Richard C. (Pete) Beeson; two grandchildren, Chad Sasser and John Beeson; and two step-grandchildren, Ashley Roper and Courtney Henderson.

BODENHEIMER Allen Jay Bodenheimer, 73, Springfield Friends, High Point, North Carolina, June 22, 2001. Allen Bodenheimer was born April 14, 1928 to David Carl and Roxie Allen Bodenheimer. On October 22, 1949, he married Mary Fay Alexander. He attended Guilford College and was active in local politics. He was active in his meeting, serving at various times as Sunday School Superintendent, Finance Chairman, Clerk of Monthly Meeting, Elder of Ministry and Council and various committees. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Larry Dale Bodenheimer and David Zane Bodenheimer; a daughter, Sandra L. Culler; a sister, Corinna Spencer; and six grandchildren, Annette and Tom Bodenheimer and Dustin, Dylan, Lauren and Blake Culler.

BROWN Roy Lester Brown, 86, Forbush Friends, East Bend, North Carolina, June 29, 2001. Roy Brown was the son of Winfield and Mary Wooten Brown. He was a lifelong member of Forbush Friends Meeting. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Hicks Brown; and his second wife, Gladys Snow Brown; four brothers, Buford, Marm, Conard, and Curtis Brown; and three sisters, Cora Webb, Rosa Davis, and Neva Davis. Survivors include a son, Lester V. "Sonny" Brown; five step-children, Shirley Bryant, Shelbie McKnight, Freddie Masencup, Jimmy Snow, and David Snow; two sisters, Nina Morris and Carolyn Groce; a brother, Joe W. Brown; 18 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

CARSON Ethel W. Carson, 89, Rush Creek-Tangier Friends, Bloomingdale, Indiana, October 4, 2000. Ethel Carson was born June 3, 1911 to C.J. and Laura Watts Wilson. In 1937, she married Ralph W. Carson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Michael Ratcliff, and a granddaughter, Chelsea Ratcliff. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Ratcliff and Jane Davis, six grandchildren and eleven grandchildren.

DAY Ruth C. Day, 88, First Friends, Greensboro, North Carolina, August 2, 2001. Ruth Day was born on April 26, 1913 to Della Ruth Mendenhall Day and Clarence Hodsen Day. She devoted her entire life to working with Quaker youth in Tennessee, North Carolina and Indiana. She had at one time served as Youth Secretary for North Carolina Yearly Meeting. Survivors include a brother, Richard A. Day; two sisters, Gladys Wager and Jean Cope; and nine nieces and nephews.

HOLT William H. Holt Jr., 86, Corinth Friends, Ivor, North Carolina, August 4, 2001. William Holt was born July 17, 1915 to William H. Holt and Maggie Adcock Holt. He was the chairman of building and grounds for many years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Holmes Wetherald and a brother, Charles Lindsey Holt. Survivors include his wife, Louise Lowe Holt; four daughters, Rebecca H. Duvall, Toni H. Farrenkopf, Brenda H. Mathews and Donna H. Chessoni; two brothers, Douglas Duke Holt and Fenton Bryant Holt; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

IRELAND Hattie Wooten Ireland, 91, Branon Friends, Yadkinville, North Carolina, July 26, 2001. Hattie Ireland was born Sept. 12, 1909, to Johnnie and Nancy Weatherman Wooten. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Ireland. Survivors include three children, Johnnie Lee Ireland, Sylvia Porter, and Peggy Long; nine grandchildren, Donna Ireland, Carol Reynolds, Kelly Reinhardt, Melissa Bruce, Andrea Thorpe, Kimberly Porter, Michael Long, Becky Sherrill and Patrick Long; and 13 great-grandchildren.

MILLER Russell C. Miller, 88, Rush Creek-Tangier Friends, Bloomingdale, Indiana, April 11, 2001. Russell Miller was born May 19, 1912 to Claude and Martha Ernhart Miller. He married Rosanna Harvey in 1940. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife Rosanna; a son, Joe Miller, Sr.; a daughter, Sue Ellen Douglass; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

NEWHALL Gail Newby Newhall, 75, Minneapolis Friends, Minnesota, July 25, 2001. Gail Newhall was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to James and Bertha Newby. She attended Williams College and in 1951 married William Newhall. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her brother, William Newby. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Olson; a son, David Newhall; a sister, Joy Newby Cronk; and a grandson, Jason Olson.

NEWLIN Alfred Cyrus Newlin, 75, West Grove Friends, Snow Camp, North Carolina, May 4, 2001. Alfred Newlin was born on September 27, 1925 to Harvey and Nancy (Guthrie) Newlin. Survivors include his wife, Janell Moody Woody; three sons, Barry, Gerald, and William Newlin; a daughter, Cynthia Newlin; a sister, Martha N. Hartley, and six grandchildren.

NICHOLSON Stanton W. Nicholson, 27, Sycamore Friends, Greentown, Indiana, August 3, 2001. Stanton Nicholson was born August 5, 1973, to Paul and Bonnie Nicholson. He was to have married his fiancee Christine Phillips August 11, 2001.Ê Stan was active in his meeting, servingÊon the Building Committee and in other various capacities.Ê Since 1997, Stan and Christine had been actively involved both physically and financially in establishing a mission eye clinic in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and had traveled there with work teams several times.

REYNOLDS Faye Ola Marion Freeman Reynolds, 63, Pine Hill Friends, Ararat, North Carolina, August 10, 2001. Faye Reynolds was born April 15, 1938, to Ernest and Minnie Dean Patterson Marion. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Charles Patrick Reynolds; a sister, Leona Hayes; and four brothers, Wade, Lonnie, Clarence and James Marion. Survivors include a sister, Sue Hicks of Ararat; two daughters, Cammie Perez and Vickie Hildebrand; a son, Billy Gray Freeman; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

ROBERTSON Ethel M. Robertson, 78, Wabash Friends, Indiana, July 13, 2001. Ethel Robertson was born August 4, 1922, to John W. and Bertha Miller. She married Theodore J. Robertson in 1968. She was a member of the United Society of Friends Women and of the Builders Sunday School Class, as well as active in many volunteer activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, five brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Russell L. Tome, Jr.; a grandson, Russell A. Tome and a great-granddaughter.

SIDWELL Florence Kirk Sidwell, 87, Middleton Friends, Columbiana, Ohio, June 12, 2001. Florence Sidwell was born February 19, 1914, to Louis J. and Alice Cope Kirk. In 1937 she married Floyd Hall Sidwell. She was active in her meeting as well as among the Ohio yearly meetings, working to promote understanding between them. She represented her yearly meeting at a FWCC Triennial and worked to support the Quaker presence in South Korea. She corresponded with prisoners and worked on many community and social justice issues. She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Louis. Survivors include her husband, Floyd; five daughters, Esther Arlene, Kathryn Louise, Erma Florence, Karen Emily, and Margaret Alice; a son, Richard Floyd; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

STIEH Janette Lee Carr Stieh, 73, Corinth Meeting, Ivor, North Carolina, August 9, 2001. Janette Stieh was born January 15, 1928 to Robert Clifton Carr and Mattie Joyner Carr. She was married to William Henry Stieh, Sr. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and a charter member of the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and a daughter, Wanda Stieh. Survivors include a son, Butch Stieh; two grandsons, Hank and Jason Stieh; three brothers, George, Merrill, and Herbert Carr; a brother-in-law, J.E. Stieh; and several nieces and nephews.

WALL Annie Mae Mayes Wall, 82, Siloam Friends, East Bend, North Carolina, July 21, 2001. Ann Wall was born February 11, 1919, to Johnny Edward and Lela Hayes Mayes. She was a charter member of Siloam Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Elmer Wall. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Burchette and Jackie March; three sons, Bobby Wall, Bill "Glenn Ray" Wall, and Edgar Wall; an adopted son, Dwight Holder; two brothers, Ellis Mayes, and Lester Mayes; five sisters, Kathleen Brown, Jestine Eads, Christine Pike, Reynolda Newman, and Peggy Holyfield; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

WARDEN Hal Franklin Warden, 82, Pilot View Friends, Yadkinville, North Carolina, July 27, 2001. Hal Warden was born Jan. 2, 1919, to Wesley and Effie Steelman Warden. Survivors include his wife, Annie Pearl Collins Warden; a daughter, Linda Dixon; a grandson, Michael Hawks; a sister, Kate Miller; two brothers, John Warden and Guy Warden; two great-grandsons, Justen and Tyler Hawks; two stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.
