BETTNER R. Wayne Bettner, 79, March 12, 2003, First Friends Meeting, New Castle, Indiana.Ê Wayne Bettner was born March 29, 1923 to William and Lydia (Horsley) Bettner.Ê He attended Ball State University before serving in the U.S. Navy during the World War II, working as a pharmacistÕs assistant in the Pacific Theater. He spent 26 years in marketing for Modernfold Industries, and later for Vaughn Walls before becoming executive director of the Chamber of Commerce of New Castle in 1992.Ê He retired in 1997 and worked part-time at Ace Hardware.Ê He was an active member of First Friends Meeting, as well as VFW, American Legion, and Noon Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Louise Bettner in 1997; one daughter, Jill Magee; and one brother, William F. Bettner. Survivors include one daughter,ÊJane Ann Lough; one brother, Walter E. Bettner; and two grandchildren,ÊJoshua and Ashley Lough.

CADWALLADER-STAUB Warren Lee Cadwallader-Staub, 50, March 31, 2003, after a long battle with multiple myeloma. Warren was born on a dairy farm in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1953 and was raised by loving Quaker parents — roots that continued to nourish him throughout his life. He attended Luther College and graduated from William Penn College. He developed a career in physical plant management over the next twenty years, holding positions at Pendle Hill Conference Center in Wallingford, Pennsylvania and George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania before moving to Vermont. Warren oversaw the construction of Wake Robin, Vermont's first life-care retirement community. As a member of Wake Robin's management team, he served as its first Director of Environmental Services from 1992 until 1999, when he was disabled by cancer. Warren loved sacred choral music and sang with Oriana, Syrinx and the College Street Congregational church choir for as long as he was able. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Julie; one son, Benjamin; two daughters, Rachel and Nora; his parents, Eves and Iola Cadwallader, and two sisters, Mariann Dee Harris and Jane Cadwallader Howe; JulieÕs parents, Henry and Bebe Staub, her five sisters and families; and thirteen nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to "Warren's Fund" at the Vermont Community Foundation, to promote classical music in Vermont (VCF, PO Box 30, Middlebury, VT 05753); or to College Street Congregational Church for the college education of his children (Cadwallader-Staub College Fund, College Street Congregational Church, 265 College Street, Burlington, VT 05401).

COSTOMIRIS Edward (Bud) Costomiris, 86, February 11, 2003, Noblesville Friends Meeting, Indiana. Edward Costomiris was active in Noblesville Friends as a Sunday School teacher and committee member. He was postmaster of Cicero, Indiana for 20 years and a school board member. Survivors include his wife, Lois Kaiser Costomiris, six children and several grandchildren.

FOLLETTE Denita R. Follette, 38, April 1, 2003, First Friends Church, Grinnell, Iowa. Denita was born on July 14, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri to Earl D. and R. Eloise Johnson Brightup. She attended Barclay College in Haviland, Kansas and graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa with a B.A. degree in Business. On June 9, 1984, she married Todd C. Follette in Haviland, Kansas. The couple lived in California before moving to Fairfield, Iowa in 1987. While living in Fairfield, she worked as a teacher in the Fairfield School District. In 1999, the family moved to Grinnell and she taught at the Newton Christian School and recently was an English teacher in the Montezuma High School. She had also coached volleyball in Fairfield and Montezuma. She was a active member of the First Friends Church and a pastorÕs wife. Survivors include her husband, Todd Follette; two sons, Clinton J. and Craig J.; one daughter, Christa J.; her parents, Earl and Eloise Johnson Brightup; one sister, Diane Hershberger; and one brother, Robert E. Brightup. Memorials may be sent to the Denita Follette Scholarship Fund, in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

RICHMOND Leona Watland Richmond, 98, March 19, 2003, College Avenue Friends Meeting, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Leona was born April 21,1904, near New Sharon, Iowa. She attended William Penn College, graduating in 1926. After graduation, she married Thomas Terrell who later was killed in an auto accident. Leona worked a year at the Agriculture Library in Ames, Iowa, before being encouraged by Elton Trueblood to return to college at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa., where she majored in Library Science. After graduation, she worked at Pennsylvania State College Agriculture Library, the Brooklyn Public Library in New York and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. before becoming a librarian with the new United Nations Library, and later joined the American Red Cross National Headquarters Library in Washington, D.C. In 1952, Leona retired and married Dr. Edward (Ned) A. Richmond. They lived in Massachusetts and Moorestown, N.J., until his death in 1970. A year later, Leona decided to return to Oskaloosa to be near a brother. She served on the College Board at William Penn College and became a member of the College Avenue Friends Meeting.

WIMMER Robert Wimmer, 86, Bethel Friends Meeting, Jonesboro, Indiana. Robert was born in Howard County to Wren and India (Cramer) Wimmer. He and his wife Helen lived near Marion on their home farm for many years. Robert was a life long farmer, plowing his first field of corn at the age of 7, his last at the age of 86. Robert served Bethel Friends as Trustee and Clerk for many years. He was a loyal member and was admired and loved by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chester; one sister, Gertrude and one son-in-law, Terry Pattison. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen Davis Wimmer; his twin daughters Cloann Pattison, and Joann King; one brother, Billy Wimmer; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
