Deaths BATH Alice Ruth (Peggy) Bath, 80, October 20, 2004, Xenia Friends Meeting, Xenia, Ohio. Alice was born to James and Hazel Liddle. She attended Xenia schools, graduating in 1942. Upon her marriage to Charles Bath, she became a faithful member of Xenia Friends Church and helped with many activities. For 40 years she was employed as a secretary for Anderson Insurance Agency. Survivors include her husband, Charles, and two sisters-in-law. BRICKEL Willard F. Brickel, 83, September 21, 2004, Xenia Friends Meeting, Xenia, Ohio. Willard was an active member of Xenia Friends Meeting for many years. As a youth, he enjoyed Sunday School activities and as an adult he was a faithful member of Monthly Meeting. Through the years, he served on various committees and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also supported many events within Wilmington Yearly Meeting. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and retired after 31 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Betty; one son, Keith; one daughter, Beverly Koogler; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. BROWN Mollie Adell Styers Brown, 88, November 7, 2004, Union Cross Friends Meeting, Yadkinville, North Carolina. Mollie was born July 20, 1916, to Walter and Sally Shore Styers. She was retired from Hanes Knitting Company. She was a member of Union Cross Friends Church and taught her Sunday school class as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin A. Brown; one grandson, James Austin North; one great-grandson, Derek Steven Brown; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Brown; four brothers, Henry, Paul, Luther and Marshall Styers; one sister, Blanche Sobotta; four half-brothers, Roy, Fred, Ralph and T.W. Styers; and three half-sisters, Beulah Williard, Virginia Coram and Lucy Styers. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Brown and Gray Brown; four daughters, Clara Hinshaw, Jane Hennings, Annette Hennings and Sue North; 13 grandchildren, Gina Hayes, Lisa Groce, Tiffany Burgiss, Ronnie Brown, Karen Reece, Brock, Kevin, Barry, Darren and Britt Hennings, Torri Hinshaw, Sonja Church and Jonathan North; 23 great-grandchildren; a special nephew and his wife, David and Glenda Sobotta; several other nieces and nephews; and one sister, Sally Williams. CHILTON Kenneth Melvin Chilton, 77, November 8, 2004, Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Kenneth was born March 23, 1927, to Jasper Soloman and Eliza Johnson Chilton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the 793rd Military Police Unit serving in Germany. He was the owner and operator of Piedmont Coach Lines from 1957 to 1998 and also the owner and operator of Carolina Star Warehouse in Winston-Salem and The Growers Warehouse in Timmonsville, South Carolina. He was a member of the Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Joyce Chilton; and three brothers, Bishop, Paul and Edsil Chilton. Survivors include three brothers, Herbert Chilton, Johnson Chilton and Moir Chilton; two sisters, Ruth Ann Whitaker and Rachel Masten; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Susan Thomas and her family. HARVEY John Charles Harvey, 86, November 12, 2004, First Friends Meeting, Richmond, Indiana. Born in Liberal, Kansas, on September 28, 1918, he was the son of Guy W. and Versa Reece Harvey. He was a 1936 graduate of New Providence, Iowa, High School, a 1943 graduate of Boston University School of Theology earning a master of sacred theology degree and in 1967 he received an M.A. degree in elementary education at Ball State University. A recorded minister, he served four Friends meetings as pastor in Lawrence, Mass.; College Avenue Friends, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Fairview Friends near Wilmington, Ohio; and New Castle Friends, Indiana. From 1958 to 1968 he was an elementary school teacher in the Richmond, Indiana and Preble County, Ohio, areas. In 1968 he began his own building business with his son, Tim. John was a member of First Friends Meeting, Richmond, past president of Wayne County Homebuilders Association, Yokefellows, Golden K Kiwanis and Habitat for Humanity. He gave sermons in many local churches, was involved in many United Methodist mission building projects in Indiana and South Carolina, wrote columns for the Graphic, Senior Life and Lifestyles. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Survivors include his second wife, Betty Jane Walker Harvey, to whom he was married October 19, 1963; his first wife, Wanda Powell Harvey; three sons, David Harvey, Paul Harvey and Timothy Harvey Sr.; two daughters, Verna Jean Tweddale and Cindy Hankins; two stepsons, Steven Snodgress and David Snodgress; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelda Jean Delamarter; and three nieces. MARION Janet Brown Marion, 73, November 2, 2004, Forbush Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Janet was born January 26, 1931, to Graham and Mattie Wooten Brown. She was a member of Forbush Friends Meeting. Since moving to Holden Beach, she attended Gospel Center Baptist Church in Varnamtown. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 38 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Carl Brown, Fred Brown and Grady Lee Brown. Survivors include her husband, Robert Marion; one daughter, Carolyn M. Norris; one granddaughter, Tricia Holden; and two great-grandchildren, Savana Holden and Quinton Holden. NEUHAUSER Marilyn B. Neuhauser, 82, November 2, 2004, Friendship Friends Meeting, Greensboro, North Carolina. Marilyn completed undergraduate studies at Iowa State University with a degree in food and nutrition. She attended American Theological Seminary in New York and did post graduate studies in Recreational Leadership at Guilford College. She was a member at Friendship Friends Meeting. Marilyn was a driving force for peace and spiritual movements, as well as a recognized humanitarian. Over the years, Marilyn’s writings on spiritual thought and peace activism were published in many periodicals. Her many acts of kindness and generosity were well-known among the refugee and homeless community. Survivors include one son, Timothy Neuhauser; one daughter, Mary Neuhauser; one brother, Burke Blaise; and one sister, Patricia Telfer. (Buck) Petty, Jr., 79, October 22, 2004, Plainfield Friends Meeting, Siler City, North Carolina. Buck was a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting, an Army veteran of WWII and a retired poultry farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Grey Moon Petty. Survivors include one son, Kerry Petty; three daughters, Kaye P. Hinshaw, Sandra P. Cooper and Joan P. Perry; three sisters, Lib Farrell, Adell Brooks and Pat Andrews; five grandchildren, Tracey Shaw, David Perry, Craig Cooper, Allison Hinshaw and Melanie Pace; and eight great-grandchildren. SAMPSON Alfred K. Sampson, Sr., 84, November 2, 2004, New Garden Friends Meeting, Greensboro, North Carolina. Alfred was born April 11, 1920, to Edwin and Rosa Sampson. He was a graduate of Guilford High School. A veteran of World War II, he became manager of building materials at Sears Roebuck in Greensboro. Later he was self-employed as a builder of custom homes and developer/owner of the Guilford Industrial Park. He was a member of New Garden Friends Meeting and the Brotherhood Class, the Guilford College Lions Club and the Swinging Stars Square Dance Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Voutline Pegg. Survivors include his second wife, Geraldine Hardee Sampson; one son, Ken Sampson; one stepson, Gary Hardee; one brother, Joe Sampson; three sisters, Margaret Beal, Violet Keener and Dot Fields; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. TEAGUE Larry E. Teague, 63, November 10, 2004, Cane Creek Friends Meeting, Liberty, North Carolina. Larry was born to Rev. York and Alice Teague. He was the owner of State Electric Co. and Liberty Building Supply. He was a member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting, an accomplished artist and a member of Carolina Boxer Rescue. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Teague. Survivors include his wife, Susie Teague; one son, John E. Teague; one daughter, Susan T. Watson; four grandchildren; three brothers, Franklin, Marion and Carlyle Teague; four sisters, Virginia Kimball, Martha Rogers, Louise Wilson and Laura Thompson.
