It’s Spring! The seed catalogs arrived and are on the table, on
the couch and in the magazine basket. Gardening ideas are floating
in the air, but now it’s time to begin planning how and what I will
cultivate in my garden.
The routine is the same every year: prepare the ground, plant,
water, fertilize and then enjoyment! The fragrance of the flowers;
the flavor of the vegetables! Just makes my nose itch and my mouth
water to think of such summer joys.
But do we spend as much time and energy cultivating our souls?
Creating generous hearts? Becoming the sweet fragrance of Christ?
“For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ among those who are being
saved and among those who are perishing,” writes Paul. (2 Corinthians
2:15)
Just as the scent of the honeysuckle floats throughout the neighborhood,
I long to have the same far-reaching fragrance to reach others.
And I am inspired by the aroma of others—stories shared in this
issue:
Dustin King, a teenager who is raising big bucks for Friends in
Turkana;
Tom Fox, who laid down his life to serve God;
Louise Milbourn and the Wood family who integrated her into their
family for five years;
The stories of Friends now in Chechnyan schools;
The work team that ministered in Belize; and…much more.
The fragrance of Friends is floating throughout the world. May
we cultivate it to create more generous hearts.
