BREEDLOVE Lynda L. Breedlove, 64, February 27, 2007, Edward Hill Friends Meeting, Siler City, North Carolina. A member of Edwards Hill Friends Meeting, Lynda was a sales clerk with B C Moore’s for 23 years. Survivors include her mother, Milner Willett Breedlove; her sister, Jean B. (Clifton) Webster; a niece Robin (Steven) Howard; two great-nieces, Brittani Howard and SaraKate Howard; and a great-nephew, Tyler Howard.

BROWN Dorothy J. Jennings Brown, 94, March 8, 2007, Noblesville, Indiana. She was born April 16, 1912, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Clarkson and Jessie Cammack Jennings. She was married to Paul N. Brown, who died June 20, 1964. Mrs. Brown was a cook at the Connor School cafeteria for 30 years. She also worked at Ramsey Drive In, Char Burg and the Elks Club. She retired in 1982. Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Friends Church of Noblesville. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Organization in Noblesville and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Tina Brown of Indianapolis and Jim and Bert Brown of Noblesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Jim Nelson of Carmel; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Jennings and Chet Jennings; and three sisters, Edna Hunt, Elma Wheeler and Evelyn Stoops.

BRUSH John E. Brush, 87, February 20, 2007, Medford, Pennsylvania. Born on September 2, 1919, in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, he grew up in India, where his parents served as Baptist missionaries in Kharagpur, Bengal. He returned to the U.S. after graduating from Woodstock School, in Mussoorie, in 1937. He left Bucknell University to volunteer for earthquake relief sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee in Tuxpan, Jalisco, Mexico. After completing a B.A. from the University of Chicago (1942), he served in Civilian Public Service as a conscientious objector (1943-46). He earned an M.A. (1947) and a Ph.D. (1952) in Geography from the University of Wisconsin. A Professor Emeritus of Geography at Rutgers University, he served on the faculty for 35 years, including a number as department chair. He relished exploring the world, professionally and recreationally, through the lens of geography, and sharing with others what he knew and learned. His particular love of cartography and maps began with mapping his boyhood hikes in the Himalayas. His research was concentrated in Wisconsin, New Jersey, and the cities of India, but his professional and personal interests took him across the United States and to Africa, the British Isles, China, France, Russia, and Scandinavia. His research awards included a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship and several Senior Fellowships from the American Institute of Indian Studies for research in India (1965-66, 1973-74, and 1981-82). A Member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) from the 1940s, his Quaker faith and values were central to his life. In 1955, he and his wife, Miriam Kelly Brush, were among the founders of the New Brunswick Monthly Meeting. In recent years, he joined local Friends in Medford for discussion and fellowship as part of the Hearts and Minds group. In addition to Miriam, his beloved wife of 64 years, he is survived by his children, Jonathan, Kamala, and Timothy and their families, and his brother Stanley and sister Frances, and their families. His son Steven, with whom he shared a special bond through their care of the family’s retreat in Columbia County, NY, died in November 2006.

HART Fanny Belle Durham Hart, 84, March 1, 2007, Cane Creek Friends Meeting, Snow Camp, North Carollina. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late J. C. Hart and the daughter of Charlie Durham and Lena McVey Durham, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Tower Hosiery. Survivors include one daughter, Patti Hart Greeson and husband Philip; one grandson, Timmy Greeson and wife April of Snow Camp; and one great-granddaughter, Haylee Greeson.

HEALD Loren E. Heald, 93, January 15, 2007, Plainfield Friends Meeting, Plainfield, Indiana. Loren was born on March 12, 1913. He was a member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting and the Hendricks County Farm Bureau. A retired farmer and bus driver, Loren was the widower of Helen (Springer) Heald and Doris (Rees) Heald. Survivors include three sons, Charles E. Heald, William E. (Susan) Heald, and James (Luann) Heald; two daughters, Joyce A. Heald and Debra L. (Duane) Otten; a step-son, Paul T. (Sandra) Hardin; a step-daughter, Rita (John) Swift; a brother, Wilfred Heald; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

HILL Marie Millikan Hill, 87, March 9, 2007, Archdale, North Carolina. Mrs. Hill was born January 30, 1920, in Randolph County, a daughter to the late Troy and Blanche Pearce Millikan. Mrs. Hill was a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting and had been a member of South Plainfield Friends Missionary Circle for 30 years. She was married to William “Bill” B. Hill who died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Surviving are four children, Phyllis Hoover and husband, Dale, of High Point, Pat White and husband, Gary, of Archdale, Anne Stilwell and husband, John, of Lake Tillery and Bob Hill and wife, Betty, of Foxfire Village; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ina Lee White of Archdale and Berniece Davis of Randleman.

HINSHAW Jesse Frank Hinshaw Jr., 57, February 8, 2007, Mount Carmel Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Born on March 16, 1949, Jesse was the son of June Taylor and Frank Hinshaw Sr. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Friends Meeting and had been a pressman for the Winston-Salem Journal and also a substitute teacher at the Yadkin Success Academy. Preceded in death by his parents, Jesse is survived by his wife, Carolyn Speer Hinshaw; two sons, Frank Royal (Rebecca) Hinshaw and Evan Wayne Hinshaw; a granddaughter, Abigal Virginia Hinshaw; and a brother, Kim (Joyce) Hinshaw. PEACOCK Jessie Anna Woolman Peacock 96, November 5, 2006, Corona, California, formerly of Mooresville, Indiana. She was born to the late Edward and Anna (Whinery) Woolman in Hanover, Ohio. She was a nursing assistant at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville for 13 years, retiring in 1976. She attended Earlham College and Case Western Reserve. Her memberships include: Plainfield Friends Meeting, Sugar Grove Home Economics Club, United Friends Women Society, Hikers Club, and Quaker Homebuilders. She is survived by two sons, David A. and Paul J. Peacock; a daughter, Nancy S. Burks; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abram R. Peacock; two brothers, Addison and Russell Woolman; and two sisters, Emily Pollard and Edith Woolman.

RIDDLE Lottie Jane Chilton Riddle, 95, February 24, 2007, Ararat, North Carolina. She was born in Surry County on November 19, 1911, to John Frank and Jezzebell Simmons Chilton. Mrs. Riddle was married to George Elbert Riddle for 63 years and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Ararat Friends and attended Double Creek Church of Christ. Mrs. Riddle was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Bobby Lee Riddle; two sisters, Nonnie Jones and Lula Danley; five brothers, Charlie, Herman, Manuel, Herbert and Coe Chilton; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Riddle of Ararat and Patty Riddle Bowman of Siloam; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Franklin and Betty Riddle, of Ararat; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Riddle, of Dobson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Marie, Clio and Zola Chilton.

SHORE Mary Fargis Shore, 95, January 31, 2007, Centre Friends Meeting, Greensboro, North Carolina. Mary belonged to the Centre Friends Meeting and retired from Blue Bell after over 30 years of employment. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charlie M. Shore; a son, Gary Shore; and all her brothers and sisters. Survivors include her children, Carol (Thomas) Harris, Forrest (Faith) Shore, Shirley (Andy) Hodgin, and Donald (Marvene) Shore; daughter-in-law Hilda Shore; sister-in-law Ailene Norwood; brother-in-law Fred Reavey; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. SMITH Lella Smith, 98, February 22, 2007, New Garden Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Lella was born August 3, 1908 to Sarah Louise and William Arthur Motsinger. She was a member of the New Garden Friends Meeting and of the Helen Binford Circle at the Meeting. She worked several years as a home economics teacher, but her main focus was caring for her husband and four children. Lella obtained a degree in home economics from High Point College. She was preceded in death by her husband, French, and their son, William Frazier Smith. Lella is survived by her children, Robert French Smith, Janet Smith (Christopher) Johnston, Mary Louise Smith and partner Cheryl Hopkins; grandchildren, Patricia Lella Johnston, Christopher Johnston, and David French Johnson; sister, Mary Motsinger Evans; and sister-in-law, Sara King Smith.
