(Shugart) Adamson, 29, March 26, 2007, Bethel Friends Church, Indiana. Sharalee was the daughter of Ron and Kathy Shugart and a member of Bethel Friends Church. CISSNER Joy Cissner, 1939-2007, March 11, 2007, Center Friends Church, Indiana, after a seven-year bout with cancer. She was a faithful member of Center Friends Church for over 50 years, served on many committees, taught a children’s Sunday school class, was a member of USFW and president for the past several years. Survivors include her husband, Robert and four children. CLODFELTER Hazel Cox Clodfelter, 91, January 21, 2007, Asheboro Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Hazel was born on September 10, 1915, to John Lindsey and Bertie Staley Cox. She worked at the General Electric Plant in Asheboro until retirement. Hazel then enrolled in Davidson County Community College where she received her Nursing Assistant Certificate and worked at Randolph Hospital and did some private duty in home care. Hazel became a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting by profession of faith on September 12, 1934. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class where she served as treasurer and joined in the social activities of the Elderberries. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertie Cox and two brothers, Colon and Garrett Cox. Survivors include one son, Larry (Dora) Clodfelter; one sister, Agnes Woodley; one niece, Rebecca Biddle; and one nephew, Doug Cox. CRANFILL Carl Monroe Cranfill, 91, April 10, 2007, Harmony Grove Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Carl was born March 20, 1916, to James Monroe and Lora Biddy Royal Cranfill. He was a retired dairy farmer who loved music and was an excellent guitar picker. He sang a beautiful tenor in the church choir at Harmony Grove Friends for more than 60 years and led the choir for many years. He was also a charter member of the Yadkin County Senior Chorus. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Belle Wiles Cranfill; two sons, Max Cranfill and Rex (Donna) Cranfill; two grandchildren, Karl Victor (Angela) and Shannon (Todd) Caudle; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Clara Anne Caudle, Joseph David Cranfill and Ray Cline. DALE Richard King Dale, 83, January 30, 2007, Wabash Friends Church, Indiana. Richard was born February 1, 1923, to Willie Marvin and Edith Matilda (King) Dale. He married Ruth Ellen Landis on April 9, 1944; she died July 17, 2004. He was a member of Wabash Friends Church, where he was trustee several years and served on the Cemetery Committee. He was also a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association 25 years. Dick was a lifelong dairy and hog farmer. Survivors include two sons, Steven (Mary Jane) Dale and Ken (Janet) Dale; one daughter, Carol (Noel) Haupert; two brothers, Roger (Bonnie) Dale and John (Lela) Dale; one sister, Rachel “Sally” (Glen) Stanley; 11 grandchildren, Tina (Graham) Smith, Scott (Lisa) Haupert, Mike Dale, Nathan (Jamie) Haupert, Kimberly Dale, Troy (Christine) Haupert, Kristin Dale, Jared (Kathy) Haupert, Darrin (Brianne) Haupert, Nicholas Haupert, and Allison Haupert; and seven great-grandchildren, Allysa Haupert, Ella Haupert and Reid Haupert, Alexander Haupert and Gabreil Haupert, Grant Smith and Abby Smith. FARLOW Cecile Pickard Farlow, 72, April 4, 2007, Marlboro Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Born September 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Robert Alson Pickard and Bertha Lillie Shorter Pickard. She was a devout member of Marlboro Friends Meeting, the Fellowship Sunday School Class and USFW Circle #2. She retired from the Norton Company. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Max Farlow; two sons, Patrick Farlow and Kevin (JoAnn) Farlow; one granddaughter, Sophie Elizabeth Farlow; and one sister, Belva Jo Pickard Leonard. GEORGE Raymond Edward George, 43, March 2, 2007, Bethel Friends Meeting, Jonesboro, Indiana. He was a Major in the U.S. Army, having served 20 years. He was a member of Bethel Friends Meeting. Survivors include his wife, Amy George; his father, David George; his mother, Lynette Wolford; his grandfather, Joe Knopp, and two siblings, David Scott George and Barbara Moran. HINSHAW Isham Willard Hinshaw, 89, March 22, 2007, Plainfield Friends Meeting, Siler City, North Carolina. Willard was born February 12, 1918, the son of Willie Alexander and Mary Isabelle (Dixon) Hinshaw. He was owner/operator of Hinshaw Garage and a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting where he held numerous offices. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Beulah Stone Hinshaw; one son, Noble W. Hinshaw; one sister, Hazel H. Smith; two grandchildren, Roger (Judy) Hinshaw and Deborah (Freddie) Rickman; and five great-grandchildren, Corey Rickman, Brooks Hinshaw, Joy Hinshaw, Cassie Rickman and Carson Rickman. HOKE Willis Wendell Hoke, 94, March 7, 2007, Bethel Friends Meeting, Jonesboro, Indiana. Willis was born May 29, 1929, and was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Bethel Friends Meeting; active in the Indiana and Grant County Holstein Associations; was a member of the Woodcarvers Assoc.; and worked with draft ponies. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mary (Baldwin) Hoke; four daughters, Janet (Don) Garner, Jane (David) Cain, Judy (Bill) Monts and Jean Pritchett; one son, Kenneth (Candace); 14 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. HUTCHENS Frances V. Randall Hutchens passed away March 22, 2007. She was born June 6, 1913 in Mooresville, IN, to the late Frank and Mary (Deel) Randall. She was a homemaker and member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alden L. Hutchens. She was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include her children, Louis Ray (Janet) Hunt, Rosalie (Steve) Hancook, Susan Earls and John Hutchens; a half-sister, Patsy Welch; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was known for the delicious pies she made for Church meetings, and she will be missed by all who knew her. LEONARD Ralph Howard Leonard Sr., 85, April 7, 2007, Edward Hill Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Ralph was a member of Edward Hill Friends Meeting and a cattle and poultry farmer. He was devoted to his church, community and country. He was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Betty Stone Leonard; one daughter, Janet L. (Jackie) Walters; one son, Ralph H. (Mary Gray) Leonard Jr.; one sister, Clarice L. Scotton; one brother, John Leonard; four grandchildren, Michelle Evans, Nichole Conrad, Brooks Leonard, Laura Leonard; and two great-grandchildren, Nova Evans, Keller Evans. NOLAN Bertha Ella “Bert” Nolan, 61, January 28, Wabash Friends Meeting, Indiana. Bertha was born July 13, 1945, to Harold E. and Ella May (Phillips) Grant. She had a life-long connection with the Salvation Army. Her volunteer work continued at Wabash Friends Church, where she was a member. She put children’s activity boards together, assisted with preparing the monthly newsletter and sent reminder cards to workers. She also sang in the choir, signed for the hearing- impaired, coordinated the prayer chain, coordinated the Women’s Retreat for many years and worked the church’s food booth at the 4-H fair. She was also a volunteer at Helping Hands of Wabash County and helped tutor children in reading. While she was able, she worked nights as a qualified medical assistant and nurse’s aide. Survivors include one cousin, Carol. OSBORNE Charles Emery Osborne, Sr., 92, April 7, 2007, Centre Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Charles was born on October 10, 1914, to Charles and Sallie Hockett Osborne. He retired as an upholsterer with Monarch Furniture Co. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Marvin Osborne; and four sisters, Sarah Osborne, Rachel O. Farlow, Elizabeth O. Pickett and Margaret O. Reynolds. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Edith Gray Osborne; one son, Charles E. (Geraldine) Osborne, Jr.; one brother, David C. Osborne; two grandchildren, Chip Osborne III and Tammy Faulk; and one great granddaughter, Lauren Osborne. OVERMAN Velma Etta Overman, 87, April 13, 2007, Rocky River Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Velma was born March 30, 1920, the daughter of Nanny and Joseph M. Pendengrass. She was active in the Rocky River Friends Meeting and was always ready to provide a flower arrangement for the church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas Worth Craven and R.C. Overman, Jr; five sisters, Margaret Perry, Mildred Burke, Ruby Story, Josephine Pendergrass, Mary Lou Patton; three brothers, Clay Pendergrass, June Pendergrass and Jimmy Pendergrass; two brothers-in-law, Mike Gummerson and Bob Kirchhoff; and one step-daughter, Jean Overman Kellerman. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Craven; one son, Thomas (Sylvia) Lee Craven; two sisters, Sallie (Robert E.) Ward and Patsy; a twin sister, Thelma (Ed) Allred; 17 nieces and nephews; 32 greatnieces and nephews; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Joyce Overman Bowman; step-son-in-law, Jay Kellerman; five step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. RAYLE Bonnie Mullis Rayle, 78, April 23, 2007, First Friends Meeting, Greensboro, North Carolina. Bonnie retired from AT&T, formerly Western Electric, after over 32 years of service. She was a very active member of First Friends Meeting, served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and served in the canteen of the American Red Cross for over 12 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Kirby Mullis. Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Stevens; her son, Emory Rayle; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. STANLEY Harold Stanley 97, December 3, 2006, Plainfield Friends Meeting, Indiana. Harold was born April 6, 1909 to Everett Sr. and Ota (Pickett) Stanley. He was self-employed until he retired in 1974. He delivered for Meals on Wheels for 35 years until 2005. He was a member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette (Negus) Stanley. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy S. (Tom) Burbrink, Judy A. (Merrill) Musgrave and Caryl S. Nysewander; one son, John H. Stanley; one sister, Sarah Edith McClain; one brother, Everett Stanley Jr.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-greatgrandchildren. WHITE Helen Keyes Wright White, 92, April 13, 2007, New Garden Meeting, North Carolina. Helen was born March 1, 1915, in Indiana and grew up in Delaware. She attended George School and Earlham College and later received a Masters Degree from Winthrop University. Helen taught high school and college English. She worked diligently throughout her life for equality and justice for all people, participating in many local, national and international organizations, and traveled to Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America trying to further world peace. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Edwin C. White; two sons, Edwin Chandlee White, Jr. and Charles F. (Sara) White; one daughter, Sylvia S. (Michael Mirande) White; and two grand-daughters, Cassandra E. and Sylvia Rose White. VESTAL Pearlie Vestal, 79, May 4, 2007, Forbush Friends Meeting, North Carolina. Pearlie was born January 1, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, W.E. Vestal and two brothers, George Steelman and Clarence Steelman. Survivors include five sons, James Vestal, Jerry Vestal (Terri), J.W. Vestal (Myra), Jimmy Vestal (Margaret) and Joel Vestal (Patricia); one daughter, Janet Vestal; two brothers, J.D. Steelman and Clinton Steelman; four sisters, Vernell Matthews (Bobby June), Helen Reece, Ola Trivette and Mary Ruth Brawley; nine grandchildren, Allen Vestal, Tonya Hall, Michelle Collins, Jody Vestal, Sarah Vestal, Amy Vestal, Daniel Vestal, Joseph Vestal and John Vestal; and six great-grandchildren.
