Perspectives: Earl Conn was the first editor of Quaker Life magazine and served from September 1960-July 1964. On the eve of Quaker Life's 50th anniversary we mourn the loss of our beloved friend. Taken from his very first editorial, he leaves us with these words, as prophetic today as they were in that first issue: As one speaker recently put it, The challenge of today is not whether we are as good as our fathers but whether or not we are good enough for our sons. This indeed is the test facing mankind and more specifically the test facing Quakerism and even more definitely the test facing Quaker Life. The Five Years Meeting sessions made this quite clear in the deliberations in Richmond. Quakerism must, it absolutely must, look to the future and meet that future head-on. This, too, then becomes the responsibility of Quaker Life. Quaker Life can, but will it? Your prayerful concern, your contributions, your support, your active interest will be a major part of the answer. Earl Conn, September 1960
