1999 FUM Triennial
By Frank Massey

Triennial 99The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, will be the site for the Friends United Meeting Triennial on July 14-18, 1999.

Our theme for the session will be "Whom shall I send?" Our Bible studies, plenary sessions, workshops and business sessions will center on this theme as we seek God's direction. FUM's missionaries and field workers will be plenary speakers and Bible study leaders.

A family week with programs and activities for all ages, the Triennial will have children and youth activities during plenary sessions, business sessions and workshops.

A committee of yearly meeting youth leaders are planning a YouthQuake type of experience during the sessions. The children's program will become an opportunity for our children to meet Friends from around the world, to learn of their lives and faith.

It will also be a week for the family to be in one of the oldest cities on the East Coast and see a part of United States history. Friends may arrive a day early, stay in the dorm and have a day to walk through old Williamsburg, visit Yorktown or Jamestown, or even ride on the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens.

Triennial sessions are a time for Friends United Meeting to gather and discern where God is calling us. Look for material and information here in Quaker Life in the fall. Reserve the dates of July 14-18, 1999, for a week of fellowship, worship and discernment at the FUM Triennial, Williamsburg, Virginia.

Frank Massey is general secretary of Baltimore Yearly Meeting, the host yearly meeting for the FUM Triennial.

Davises at FTC

Improvements to Friends Theological College Under Way

At the Friends Theological College in Kamoisi, many buildings are structurally sound but in need of repair. To begin the substantial upgrades needed, FTC students, staff, board members and Kenyan Quakers gave funds for painting the library. Rich and Sandy Davis, at right, stand in front of the FTC library. Rich and Sandy Davis are FUM representatives in East Africa.

Waleed

Students at Ramallah Friends School, Palestine, raised over $2,000 as a "love gift" for Um Waleed, second from right, after she had a stroke during Christmas break. She appears in the picture above with the rest of the School's cleaning staff.
