Dear Reader Each of our cover stories is, in its own way, a love story. Claude Lewis' account of his final eleven years with his wife Joyce, is a tale of love, perseverance, and hope. Not everyone can extend the kind of care that Claude did through his wife's Alzheimer's Disease. But this story of love can inspire us to look beyond the externals of our relationships to the commitment and compassion that speaks of eternal things. Eden Grace has written with the exuberance of one freshly in love with the world church of Christ. As one of FUM's representatives to the Harare Assembly of the World Council of Churches in December, Eden wrote daily email messages to many Friends back home. It was voluminous and exciting reporting. The challenge she faced writing for Quaker Life was to select only a small portion of her experience, and still convey something of the big picture. Our colleague, Matt Keller, is the guest author for Commitments this month during Johan Maurer's leave. After a month spent in Kenya this Spring, he shares his passion for us to meet "heart to heart" with Friends from other cultures. We share his commitment. In the Readers' Essay, I reflect on the killings in Littleton, Colorado, and in Kosovo. Look to our news pages and book reviews for more coverage of how Friends have stood for the good news of peace. We've been asked about "Viewpoints." We think of "Viewpoints" as an open forum and try to print all readers' letters that are not abusive or redundant. We also welcome your articles: particularly stories of how God has been at work in your life or in the ministry of your Meeting.
