Thursday, January 10, 2008 A recent text message from Eden answered a few questions I had about the Lindi School. As you will recall from news releases over the past couple weeks, there has been burning and destruction in the Kibera slums of Nairobi. Lindi School is located in the Kibera slums and was built and furnished, in part, by donations from the FUM constituency over the past couple years. Samson Ababu, a member of the AQUAVIS group who oversees the Lindi School, was finally able to get back into Nairobi under police escort. He reports that much of Kibera as well as parts of Nairobi are uninhabitable; however, Lindi School and those folks who are connected with it seem to have escaped harm. Lindi will be open next week, and they expect an influx of students because of the feeding program. Due to the instability in the country, the FUM Kenya General Board sessions have been postponed to some time later this spring. Again Jody Richmond is still safe with Bob and Hope Carter. Ben is on his way to join her and should arrive late this evening or early in the morning. The Graces have moved home and are doing well. John Muhanji and his family are also doing well. Many thanks to those who have responded quickly with donations for relief efforts. Because of your help, we will be able to send just over $1,400 on Tuesday next week. If you are still considering a donation, please mail a check to Friends United Meeting, 101 Quaker Hill Dr., Richmond, IN 47374 and put "Kenya Relief" in the memo section or make your contribution online. Thank you for your continued prayers, Terri Johns Contribute online or contact the FUM Richmond office (8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday) at (765) 962-7573.
